Rotate the Completor #6, Emily Kaplan, 2010

I have been debating with myself whether or not I should post this here. I wouldn't necessarily presume to compare myself to the animators I post every day.

On the other hand, I worked my ass off on this. And this is MY BLOG.

I decided to compromise and make it a bonus feature today.

SO.

This is a video for song #6 from Rotate The Completors: Completed Rotations Of The... LP, available from Roaratorio.

I just finished it yesterday. Now I am going to.. I dunno, read a book or something. Try to regain my social skills.

  1. water colors are great. i don't care for the collage-y stuff but all the original things are very cool.

  2. I think it's one hundred percent awesome. Like the commenter above, I am typically less interested in collage-type animation, but unlike above I find that you've used it really challengingly here, and I am more than a little surprised to find myself so engaged. I am not at all surprised by the deep love I feel for the character design and the clever narrative, and yet I am still blown away. Please keep up the good work. I'm totally loving it.

And I am really glad you posted it here.

  3. I was originally going to utilize more of the collage - in fact, I have a little more than a minute of additional footage that uses it more extensively. It was fun trying to make existing photos into characters that inhabited a world that's entirely in my head.

I do think that the watercolor characters look better, and they were much easier to work with. In the future, I probably won't work too much with magazine photos unless I find a set of really compelling images.

    Thanks!
