Yuck Mouth, Isadore Freleng,1973
1970s "Bod Squad" PSA.Produced by Depatie-Freleng Enterprises for ABC. Voiced by Scatman Crothers.
Another member of the Bod Squad was the mystifying Time for Timer. I still don't know what he is, and I still find this disturbing.

Leave it to Tex Avery to not only get the most out of a sight gag, but also to give you conflicted feelings about fleas.

High Note, Chuck Jones, 1960
A more traditional Warner Brothers cartoon that still shows off his visual talent.
Jones was an incredibly versatile visual director. The cleverness of his characterizations is so compelling that you don't often hear about how absolutely great his cartoons looked, which is something I'm a bit enamored of at present.
In case you couldn't tell.

Gumbasia, Art Clokey, 1953, plus lots of Gumby and Pokey
Yesterday the world lost a great animator. Art Clokey, stop motion pioneer best known as the creator of Gumby and Pokey, died at the age of 88. We can only hope that in our lives we bring so much happiness to so many. RIP.
In his honor, I'm posting several Gumby shorts for us all to enjoy.

Tom Turkey and his Harmonica Humdingers, Hugh Harman,1940
Today, let us give thanks for Cartoons.
If you're from the United States, because it's the holiday.
If you're from somewhere else, because cartoons are the best.
SEE? You see what they would do if we didn't eat them?

Now here's something we hope you'll really like!
I had no idea, but today is the 50th aniversary of the TV debut of Rocky and Bullwinkle! OMG!
Here's a link to the first episode on Hulu.

ETA: I also discovered that today is Ivan Maximov's birthday. I have pretty much decided today is a holiday.
