I'm sorry about the unannounced and unplanned, uh, sabbatical.


I'm alive. I am not in jail.


There is quite a gap, so I am going to start posting cartoons from today forward and backschedule as I have time.

Mostly. I accidentally marked the date on Saturday's post for June 1st and misdated today's post as well. Then I freaked out and posted tomorrow's cartoon today for a few minutes, until Cavin told me what I did with yesterday's cartoon. anyway, I fixed it, everything is back to mostly normal. As you were.

It's been a YEAR! I have posted 365 cartoons (I have too. The first post has the ones starting from March 13th, Mr. Picky Pants.)

A cartoon every damn day. A year without pants.

And I haven't run out. Not only that, people seem to be making more, and some of them are really good. I also keep finding gems that I have never seen before.

I hope it's been fun for you, because it's been incredible for me. Something that started out as a very casual thing has taught me a lot. I have seen so much beautiful, weird, stunning, disturbing, hilarious and amazing work from all over the world that I never would have sought out without the pressure of daily presentation. In the coming year, I promise will continue stuffing as much animation in my eyeholes as humanly possible, in lieu of doing something like ending world hunger or curing cancer and stuff, so that I may continue to bring your daily diversion.

There are so many brilliant and dedicated people in the world, bringing us this wonderful art. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for doing so. It's hard, frequently thankless and not terribly lucrative work (Please buy their stuff and give them money. Please.) Every animator out there who might be reading this, I appreciate you so much for everything you do, and for the joy you have brought to me and the eight other people who look at this blog. Thank you.

SO ANYWAY OFF WITH THE TROUSERS AND ON WITH THE CARTOON.

Today, you get a special treat. Normally, I wouldn't post a feature length film, but today is special and so is this.

Fehérlófia (Son of the White Mare) is an incredible film by Hungarian animator Marcell Jancovics. It's particularly fascinating because it maintains its lovely, colorful graphic style throughout - very unusual for a feature film. I have no idea how I hadn't heard of this before I did, because it's extraordinary.

It's in nine parts. I know that's not the ideal way to watch a feature. if anyone knows where I can buy this on DVD, please tell me.

We are experiencing technical difficulties.

Normally, I schedule the cartoon to automatically post at 6:30 AM every day. However, for some reason, this has not been happening. I don't think anyone has noticed, but just in case you have found this disruption in daily routine distressing, rest assured the cartoon still goes up EVERY DAMN DAY. Just not at the crack of dawn like it usually does. For the time being, I have to press a button to make it go.

If you have any recommendations...

I love scouring the four corners of the intertubes for your daily animation fix (and mine, of course. I can't really pretend this is much more than an excuse to stuff as many cartoons into my eyeballs as humanly possible.) It's a lot of fun, and I've already seen many new things and learned a lot.

But if you are here, I imagine you love animation too, and you may have seen something that I haven't, or know something I don't. I'm posting something every day, and there are an infinity of days, so chances are all recommendations will be taken into account and most likely posted if they are available (some things aren't.)

In the next few weeks or so, I also have a few pieces that I really enjoy, but have been having a deuce of a time finding out who made them. I've been pretty good at sleuthing out the information so far, but a lot of things are posted on video sites with no information on the authorship of the content, and often the posters may not know themselves. So if'n you know stuff, you can tell me.

Bear in mind I'm a loving enthusiast, not an expert, and definitely not a snob. Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments, or email me at yourdailycartoon@gmail.com. It would be divine to get some mail that wasn't from:

a)the wife of a deposed dictator with a business proposition for me,
b)some kind soul concerned about the size and quality of my erection,
c)someone who would like to show me pictures who are beauty and sex with ponies.

I am totally pretending that more than five people look at this blog. Let me dream.
