There are so many amazing transformation ideas here and they could easily have failed in lesser hands. The level of imagination and execution on display is quite original... It's really a work of wonder... I saw this somewhere once with subtitles and as best I can remember the monster threatens to kill(?) the fisherman by midnight if he cannot solve some riddle. The dashing hero who comes to the rescue confounds the beast with a verbal barrage of outrageous claims which I suspect are clever puns not easily translatable to English. My best guess anyway. A truly memorable film in any case.
Hey, Will Finn! Not that YouTube does a thing to advertise this, but the CC button on the linked video does toggle English subtitles. This is not always the case, of course, but it is this time. You'll be happy to know that your memory of the story is perfect, but if you want to rewatch the video with the translations, you can.

ReplyDeleteYes, and on the correct day even! I had never heard of this animator before, and he's awesome. I love my blog, yes I do.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely marvelous! Really explores the strengths of classical animation to a degree that I don't usually see even here.
