I like to chalk this up to "Brilliant, but close", given it lost to "A Greek Tragedy" that year at the Academy Awards (or Luxo Jr. at that), but it was probably a close one that year. New Zealand may get their chance next time, though they're not particularly known for animation as such given the few productions produced over the years.
